Beypore boatyard

Beypore , one of the oldest ports in Kerala from where trading was done to the Middle East is also famous for building wooden ships, called Urus locally or Dhows. What was once a flourishing trade is now a dying industry. Once ships made in these docks used to sail t he world over trading in spices and other exotic cargos. The building of Dhows is an art and the secret rests with a few families that presently get orders only from few rich Arabs that still prize these ships.
